Even though Bernard Tomic, 30, is struggling on the ITF circuit, Venus Williams ranked him as one of her current favourite players. Despite being ranked higher than some of the players who received qualifying wildcards, Tomic did not take part in the Australian Open back home. Tomic is currently ranked No.435 in the world.

This intriguing detail about the 42-year-old was uncovered by an American journalist while researching her Women’s Tennis Association biography. Given the enormous drop the Australian star has seen in the world rankings, this surprising information has shocked many Williams supporters. The player has been trying to recover by playing in low-ranked tournaments.

With two junior Grand Slam singles victories, four ATP championships, a Wimbledon Championships quarterfinal appearance, and a world ranking of 17, he had a lot of potential early in his career. But in 2022, the 30-year-position old’s fell to as low as 825. He traveled to Qatar, where he competed in three tournaments, losing one in the final, withdrawing from another in the semifinals, and retiring from a tournament in Kuwait.

Tomic was honored to be included, despite the fact that Serena Williams and Roger Federer are retired, Rafael Nadal and Gael Monfils are ailing, and Bernard Tomic is stuck in the 400 points, so the entry was likely prepared some time ago.

Venus Williams gives update on her injury

When she lost to Zhu Lin in Round 2 of the ASB Classic in New Zealand, the 42-year-old American revealed last week in a video on her YouTube channel that she had injured her hamstring in the third set of the match. Following the match, Williams went into great detail about what happened and how she planned to recuperate in time to play in the Australian Open for the 22nd time, 25 years after making her tournament debut.

“I really can’t walk that well, and I tell my physio, ‘Let’s get an MRI.’ I’m barely walking in this place, shuffling … to no surprise, I had some tears in the hamstring attachment.”

Williams also explained that she is in the midst of rehab and has to recover well enough to play again. However, for the time being, Venus plans to take an injury break. She hopes to return as soon as possible.
