3 records which Andre Russell can break in IPL 2020

Andre Russell 1

Andre Russell is hailed as the heartbeat of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. The West Indies all-rounder has been a prolific run-scorer for the side over the years. Andre Russell wreaked havoc last season. He played some jaw-dropping knocks in the tournament. Turning up in 14 matches for KKR, Russell scored 510 runs at an average of 56.66.

However, despite Russell’s heroics, KRR suffered a string of losses in the tournament and finished at the bottom half of the table. At the end of the season, fans expressed their disappointment for not sending Russell up the order.

Ahead of 2020 IPL, KKR mentor, David Hussey recently hinted the possibility of sending Russell as high as number three in the batting order.

If it benefits the team and helps us win games of cricket, why not? If he comes in at No. 3 and bats 60 balls, he might even score a double hundred. Anything can happen with Dre Russ. He is almost the heartbeat of the team.” Hussey said in an interview.

If Russell bats at number three, then he could make several records to his name.

In this article, we look at three records he can break in IPL 2020:

1. Highest individual score:

Chris Gayle boasts of notching the highest individual score in IPL. Turning up for RCB in 2013, Gayle scored 165 runs off just 66 balls. It still stands as the highest ever score posted by an individual in IPL. However, if there’s one guy who can break this record this season, it has to be Andre Russell. If he gets to bat at number 3, perhaps, one could see him notching 200 as well.

2. Most sixes in an inning:

Andre Russell played some outrageous knocks in IPL. He smacked the most number of sixes (52) last season. He achieved that feat even after coming in as low as number five on most of the times.

If he comes in at number three or four in IPL 2020, we might see a lot of balls going of the park in just one inning. Currently, Chris Gayle holds the record for hitting the most number of sixes (17) in IPL.

3.Fastest century:

Andre Russell showed last year that when he’s on song, anything is possible. He scored unbeaten 48 off just 13 balls. If he had batted for 15 more balls, he would have scored fastest century in IPL history. The fans would expect him to accomplish the feat this year.

Currently, Chris Gayle holds the record for hitting the fastest century in IPL. He achieved the feat in just 30 deliveries.
