Three-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka inspires the creation of a Manga character
Naomi Osaka
The 23-year-old, Naomi Osaka is the world’s highest paid female athlete. She claimed her third Grand Slam title at the U.S Open earlier this year. As luck would have it, she’s not just an inspiration to millions of people. Rather, now, Osaka is a muse for animators.
Naomi has inspired a new manga character which is set to appear in an issue of Nakayoshi magazine next month. As it happens, Osaka is also a fan of both manga and anime. She was utterly delighted by the publishers’ announcement and took to social media to welcome the character.
Osaka’s admiration for the character based on her
The new manga is entitled, ‘Unrivaled NAOMI Tenkaichi.’ It will be released for the masses on 28th December. Furthermore, Naomi’s sister, Mari Osaka, has assisted with the character’s creation.
The U.S Open 2020 champ took to Twitter to express gratitude towards the unveiling of the character. “Growing up reading manga/watching anime was something that bonded me and my sister immensely so this is really exciting for both of us,” she said.
This must be a dream come true for the youngster since a previous attempt to do the same did not reap good results. Osaka’s sponsor, Nissin, depicted her with pale skin and light brown hair, which led to her ‘whitewashing.’ Naomi’s mother is Japanese, while her father is from Haitian descent. However, after the uncloaking of this new character, many, including Naomi seem fully satisfied.
