Wimbledon is arguably one of the greatest and most famous sporting events, throughout history. Year after year, fans get to witness some magnificent tennis from some of the greatest players to ever pick up a tennis racquet. With so much history and traditions surrounding Wimbledon, it is the one tournament that all tennis stars dream about winning more than any other.
It’s difficult to do based on stats alone because modern equipment, technology and training are different, some players excel on grass while others triumph on clay, and the Open era only started in 1968.
Here’s a list of five greatest men’s Wimbledon players of all time.
Laver was an Australian tennis player who played from 1963 to 1979. The 1938 born Australian, Rod Laver, was world number 1 from 1964 to 1970. His unbelievable haul of 200 singles trophies is the best ever in the sport.
He won the Wimbledon title four times. Further, Laver is the only player to achieve the calendar-year Grand Slam twice. Considered one of the greatest ever, he has a tennis arena named after him in Melbourne.
