5 WWE Legends who attacked Superstars on their WWE return
WWE Legends, Goldberg and Triple H returned to WWE to challenge Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton, respectively. But they were not the only Superstars who were attacked or challenged by returning Legends.
WWE has been using the nostalgia factor for quite some time now. They bring back their Legends for a one-off appearance or for some brief stints. In order to make these appearances more impactful, WWE asks the Legends to attack the current Superstars.
Here is our list of the Top 5 instances when WWE Superstars were attacked by the Legends.
#5 Sting attacks Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins was having his dream run in 2015. He main evented Wrestlemania 31, and even won his first WWE Championship that night. At WWE Summerslam, he defeated John Cena. The win made Rollins the first-ever WWE Superstar to jointly hold the WWE Championship and the US Title.
For achieving this feat, Rollins was promised a bronze statue. But shockingly, The Sting crashed the party. He attacked Rollins, making the fans go crazy.
#4 Edge attacks Elias
The Rated-R Superstar announced his retirement in 2011. His comeback was not expected, as his retirement was caused due to an injury. But he surprised the wrestling world with an appearance on WWE.
On the kick-off show of Summerslam 2019, Elias was singing a song when Elias came out and speared him. This led to the rumors that Edge might be making an in-ring return soon. He returned to WWE at Royal Rumble 2020, kicking off a long interesting feud with Randy Orton.
#3 The Dudley Boyz attack The New Day
The WWE Tag-team division has often been criticized for not being as exciting as their singles division. But in the Attitude Era, the Tag team Division was the focal point for WWE. One of the Superstar team of this Era were the Dudley Boyz.
In 2015, The Dudley Boyz returned to WWE. They attacked all the three members of The New Day in a post Summerslam episode of Raw. It was their first appearance on WWE in more than 10 years. They received one of the loudest pop from the crowd in recent times.
#2 The Undertaker attacks Brock Lesnar
In 2014, Brock Lesnar wanted to go after the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. But WWE did not allow him to do so. He was told through an open contract to challenge any Superstar from WWE at Wrestlemania except, Batista and Randy Orton.
Lesnar decided to skip that Wrestlemania. As he was about to leave the ring, The Undertaker’s music hit. After a brief staredown The Undertaker sent Lesnar crashing through a table via a Chokeslam. Taker signed the open contract.
This led to one of the most shocking moments in WWE history – end of The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at Wrestlemania.
#1 The Rock attacks CM Punk
On the 1000th episode of Raw, The Rock announced that he would be going after the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble. When CM Punk was confirmed to be his opponent, The Rock returned on a later episode of Raw to confront Punk.
After cutting an intense promo, The Rock hit a Second-City Saviour followed by a Rock Bottom. He went on to defeat Punk at Royal Rumble, to win the WWE Championship.
