In a recent episode of the sports talk show Undisputed, co-host Skip Bayless claimed that "old white" NFL owners are uncomfortable with Black head coaches.
“I’m going to boil it down to these older White owners just aren’t that comfortable with a Black head coach because they need to interact, they need to go to dinner with the wives or the significants, or whatever, and they’re just not that comfortable,” said Bayless in a recent episode of UNDISPUTED.
He also pointed to the lack of diversity among NFL head coaches, noting that only three of the league's 32 head coaches are Black.
The league has faced criticism in the past for its lack of diversity, both on and off the field, and has made efforts to improve representation in recent years.
The NFL has a rule, called the Rooney Rule, that requires teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching positions, but many have criticized it as being ineffective.
Bayless' comments highlight the ongoing conversation around race and representation in the NFL.
