6 Most successful women at the Wimbledon

Martina Navratilova remains the most successful champion at Wimbledon, male or female. She won a total of 9 titles. After her first two titles in 1978 and 1979, she won six straight titles from 1982 to 1987 before adding her ninth title in 1990.

Steffi Graf won 7 titles at the All-England Club. Between her first title in 1988 and her 7th title in 1996, she lost at the Championships only twice, once in 1990 and the other time in 1994, stamping her authority at the major.  

Serena Williams also won 7 titles in Wimbledon during her 27-year long career. Williams won her first title in 2002 and made a successful title defense in 2003. She then won her next two titles in 2009 and 2010. Her fifth title came in 2012 while the next two were won in 2015 and 2016. 

Venus Williams with her 5 titles sits on the third spot. The elder Williams notched up the wins in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008 making two successful title defenses. Of her 7 career Grand Slam titles, Wimbledon contributes the most. 

Billie Jean King is the only entrant in the list to win titles both in Amateur Era and the Open Era. BJK won a total of 6 titles of which 4 came in the Open Era. The American great won the titles in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1972, 1973, 1975.

Chris Evert with her 3 titles completes the list. The 18-time major winner won the Venus Rosewater Dish in 1974, 1976, 1981. She finished runner-up on 7 occasions, once each to BJK and Evonne Goolagong Cawley while the remaining 5 times, Navratilova beat her.
