Top-10 youngest Year-End World No. 1 players on the ATP Tour

Bjorn Borg achieved the feat in 1979 when he finished the season ranked World No. 1 at the age of 23 years, 6 months and 25 days. Borg went on to finish as the World No. 1 in 1980 as well, the last time he managed the feat.  

Roger Federer reached the year-end No. 1 rank in 2004 at the age of 23 years, 4 months and 23 days. Federer held on to the ranking for the next 4 years till 2007. Federer finished for a 5th time at the top in 2009. 

John McEnroe makes the list with his achievement in 1981 at the age of 22 years, 10 months, 15 days. McEnroe would go on to finish the next 3 consecutive years as the top ranked player. 

Rafael Nadal ranks 7th on the list having finished as the year-end no. 1 in 2008 at the age of 22 years, 6 months and 28 days. He finished the season as the top ranked player on 4 more occasions in 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2019.  

Pete Sampras finished as the year-end no. 1 for 6 consecutive years, a feat matched by none. Sampras' reign lasted from 1993 to 1998. He was 22 years, 4 months and 19 days old in 1993 when he achieved the feat. 

Jim Courier was 22 years, 4 months and 14 days old when he finished the 1992 season as the World No. 1. It was the only time the American would end the season as the top ranked player.

Jimmy Connors finished a season as the World No. 1 for 5 consecutive years from 1974 to 1978. Connors was 22 years, 3 months and 29 days old in 1974 when he achieved the feat.

Andy Roddick ranks 3rd on the list having finished as the World No. 1 in 2003 at the age of 21 years 4 months and 1 day. It was the only time the American finished a season at the top.

Australian great Lleyton Hewitt remained the youngest ever to finish the season as the World No. 1 for more than 2 decades. Hewitt was 20 years 10 months and 7 days old in 2001 when he achieved the feat. He would go on to finish at the top in 2002 as well.

Carlos Alcaraz currently holds the record for finishing a season as the youngest World No. 1. The Spaniard finished the 2022 season as the top ranked player at the age of 19 years 6 months and 9 days breaking Hewitt's long standing record.
