In 2015, Jose Aldo was scheduled to fight Conor McGregor who was at the peak of his popularity. Few days before UFC 189, Aldo decided to withdraw his name due to a rib injury. This made way for Chad Mendes to to fight McGregor who ultimately lost the fight.
Rafael dos Anjos was all set to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196 in 2016 for the featherweight championship. However, dos Anjos suffered an ankle injury which forced him to pull out his name. This resulted in Nate Diaz taking the fight at short notice. He won the bout and stopped Mcgregor's unbeaten UFC run.
