2022 FIFA World Cup: Banning of Rainbow Armbands- controversy and reactions

During the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, England captain Harry Kane and a handful of other World Cup captains were due to don an armband with a rainbow theme to promote an anti-discriminatory statement against homosexuality.

However, after FIFA threatened to give yellow cards to any player wearing the multi-colored armband, England, Wales, and a number of other countries reversed their decision.

Germany has now disclosed that it is examining whether FIFA's threat to discipline players for displaying the OneLove armband in Qatar is legal.

Germany coach Hansi Flick was disappointed by FIFA's decision to prohibit players from wearing a "OneLove" armband at the World Cup.

"The team is very unhappy and shocked that something like this is not allowed because it is just a sign for human rights and diversity and they are also the values that we as a team live and represent." Flick said..

England manager spoke after their 6-2 victory against Iran, "I do understand FIFA's situation in that you can set a precedent and it's very difficult then, where do you draw the line?"

Harry Kane was "disappointed' after he was not allowed to wear the OneLove armband during England's 6-0 victory over Iran.  "Yeah, I think we're disappointed," he said. "I think I said on Sunday] we wanted to wear it. That decision was taken out of  my hands today.
