Bobby Green is one of the most outspoken fighters in the UFC. This was proven yet again when the American came clean about his suspension from the sport in UFC due to a supplement he didn’t know was banned. However, six months after the suspension, Green has yet again made comments that may seem to be too forthright, or even controversial.
Having fought Islam Makhachev earlier this year, Bobby Green can claim to have felt the new lightweight champion’s strength firsthand, which many, including his coach, Javier Mendez have said is off the charts.
The claims made by Green, however, are a little more contentious. He said, “I found this little video and it said Islam had a little trouble with drugs… He was saying that when he first came over that his school that he trained at in Russia, they just gave him vitamins.”
Bobby Green alleged that Islam Makhachev could have been flouting drug usage rules since childhood - Imagine if you gave someone steroids from the age of 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 ... how strong you would be… I told my coach, ‘There’s something interesting about Islam.’ I felt it. That’s just not human. It makes sense.
Green also alleged that Russia might be laxer with its drug testing as compared with the US. He said, “Russia’s been banned for the Olympics, their country’s a little bit more okay with the drug use. We’re under strenuous drug stuff over here… So, it makes sense to me, and I was wondering why those Dagestanis were winning so much. They’ve been bred to do this.”
Bobby Green’s words might have come at the worst possible time for him. With a devastating KO loss to Drew Dober, and also a suspension by USADA that isn't really past him yet, Bobby Green might want to be careful with what he might say.
