The 24-year-old Damar Hamlin plays as a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills. The six-foot safety was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the 212th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The injury incident happened during the first half of the Bengals-Bills game in the week 17 NFL regular season. Cincinnati was trying to march down the field to put points on the board for the second time in that game.
After catching a 13-yard pass from Joe Burrow, Bengals WR Tee Higgins laid a heavy hit with his right shoulder on the Bills DB, who was trying to tackle him.
The safety wrapped his arms around Higgins and managed to bring Higgins down. After the tackle, both guys stood up, but Hamlin collapsed right back on the Paul Brown Stadium’s turf.
The medical personnel checked on Hamlin and found out that he was not breathing and administered CPR before transferring him to the UC Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
Hamlin’s marketing representative has tweeted that Hamlin remains in critical condition, but his vitals are back to normal.
