The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its Men’s Test team of the decade on its Twitter handle. The council chose the XI from among the most consistent performers in red-ball cricket from 2011 to 2020. The ICC has been announcing such teams for all formats as a part of the annual ICC awards on their Twitter handle.

The team is led by Indian skipper Virat Kohli who has without a doubt been the player of the decade in all formats. The other Indian in the team is spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who is already on his way to becoming a great of the game with more than 350 wickets to his name in Test cricket. The team is otherwise dominated by Englishmen who occupy four spots in the XI.

The team’s openers are left-handers Alastair Cook and David Warner. Although the former retired back in 2018, his performances and impact over the course of the decade made him a legend of the game. Following the openers are three of the biggest names in modern-day cricket – Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. After the three, it is wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara who follows despite the fact that he usually bats higher up the order.

Ben Stokes and Ravichandran Ashwin occupy the all-rounder spots while the three specialist quicks are Dale Steyn, Stuart Broad and James Anderson. The ICC captioned the announcement of the team, “Your ICC Men’s Test Team of the Decade Cricket bat and ball. A line-up that could probably bat for a week!”
