Fidel Edwards

Nicholas Pooran and Fidel Edwards were involved in a fascinating duel in the recently concluded final of the Abu Dhabi T10 League which came to an end on the 6th of February with the Northern Warriors getting their hands on the coveted trophy. For all the excitement that the league produced, the final proved to be a one-sided contest with the Delhi Bulls meekly surrendering when it mattered the most with a very low score of 81-9 in their first innings.

The side never got going as regular wickets for the Warriors’ bowlers meant the target was easily achievable. In the chase that began cautiously, the Warriors lost openers Nicholas Pooran and Waseem Muhammad but cruised home as Lendl Simmons and Rovman Powell ensured there was no sniff of a comeback from the Bulls. Maheesh Theekshana was named the Man of the Match for picking up 3 wickets.

In the second innings chasing 82 to win, the Warriors got off to a steady start reaching 9/0 in the first over. The second over was bowled by West Indies’ Fidel Edwards and Nicholas Pooran faced him. All six balls of the over proved to be thrilling as a great contest between bat and ball ensued. Edwards bowled rising bouncers that struck Pooran on the body or helmet as many as three times. Off the other two balls, Pooran defended one and deposited another for a six.

However, the bowler had the last laugh in the end as he trapped the batsman plumb in front for a LBW to spark off wild celebrations among the Bulls. The wicket didn’t prove to be of much value in the end as Pooran went on to lift the trophy for the Warriors, but the over proved to be a scintillating contest that had everybody hooked.
