Due to COVID-19 pandemic, many athletes are finding it difficult to practice at the optimum level. With the Tokyo Olympics next year, athletes are worried whether they will be ready in time.

Indian swimmer, Kushagra Rawat recently took to twitter to express his concern regarding swimming pools still being closed.

The 20 year old swimmer shared a post on social media. Many swimming pools across the country are still closed in fear of the pandemic making it impossible for Kushagra to train at the SPM swimming complex in New Delhi.

Kushagra participated in the 400 mens freestyle at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. He was not able to qualify for the Finals. He has achieved a B cut qualification for the Tokyo Olympics in 3 events.

He has requested the Delhi government to issue an NOC for swimming pool. “I’ve achieved B cut qualification for Olympics in 3 events. I’m still unable to practice at SPM Swimming pool since Delhi Govt hasn’t issued NOC for swimming pool. Requesting for the same to enable me to get trained for Olympics,” he wrote.

Virdhawal Khade is one of the prominent swimmers in the Indian swimming circuit. He has brought many laurels for the country. He has responded to Kushagra Rawat’s Twitter post. He has spoken in support of Kushagra’s situation.

Khade highlighted the fact that finally India has a group of swimmers that are truly world-class. He said that the government needs to make sure they get everything they need.

It’s about time the best swimmers in our country today & some of the best swimmers india has ever had get the support they deserve ! After a really long time we have a bunch of swimmers who are truly world class ! The government needs to make sure they get everything they need !” he replied to Kushagra’s post.

Earlier, in June, Khade had tweeted that if the pools don’t open then he might have to consider retirement.
