FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was stalled and eventually rescheduled, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. All India Football Federation (AIFF) supported the players with a monthly dietary allowance of 10,000 for June and July. The allowance was given to all those players who were part of the National preparatory camp in Goa.

Now the event will be hosted by India in February 2021, which was earlier scheduled for November 2020. Last month, local media in Jharkhand claimed that eight of the state players who were also a part of this preparatory camp were not able to manage even a square meal a day, let alone stay fit or train at home. Along with it, they were facing an acute financial crisis in their homes.

“We hope the national camp will start in August. Once the girls are in the camp they will get good food,” said AIFF general secretary, Kushal Das.

“In case the camp doesn’t start in August, we will continue to give financial support.”

Sunita Kumari, Sumati Kumari, Sudha Ankita Tirkey, Poornima Kumari, Ashtam Oraon, Amisha Bahkla, Neetu Linda, and Salina Kumari were the 8 players. The rest 24 players include 7 from Manipur and 3 from Odisha, for the National Team Camp.

“They can’t talk to journalists,” said a football coach from Odisha, considering this statement it seems that they’ve been asked not to speak to anyone about their crisis.

President of the All Manipur Football Association, Moirangthem Ratankumar Singh, said that lockdown has made it very difficult to stay in touch with players who don’t live in town.

“Since viral cases have spiked in the state, it has become difficult to monitor the routine adopted by the players to stay fit.” “We have plans to give them one football each so they can juggle with the ball at home,” he said.

To resume camp, Das said that, the AIFF will follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Das said, “To date, we have not got the nod to resume training for team events. Goa will be the venue for the camp when it resumes. It has good facilities.”
