Akash Chopra narrates the humorous incident in the Indian dressing room
The incident happened in Cape Town in 2007 between India and South Africa. It was the 2nd innings of the Test match.
“We were playing South Africa in the picturesque ground of Cape Town. The situation in the Indian dressing room had turned bad with Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer already back in the pavilion,” Chopra said in the latest video uploaded in his Facebook page.
Sachin Tendulkar held by the Fourth Umpire
As Sachin was next to come into bat after India lost 2 wickets. The Master blaster was not allowed by the fourth umpire to bat. Sachin had been off the field for some duration during the South African innings. The Indian team had not batted long enough for him to return.
Chopra exclaimed the humourful scenario that took place in the Indian dressing room. As everyone was looking for Laxman, it was Dada (Sourav Ganguly) who was being rushed onto the field.
“Now with VVS taking bath, Dada was the only person left to go the middle. Sourav Ganguly, who was not ready at all for his batting. So someone was giving Dada his shirt, someone his trouser and another person getting his bat. And two players were making him wear his pads.” Chopra said.
Exclaiming that Laxman would have to face a frowning Ganguly as he returned back to the pavilion. Unknowingly, Laxman came out of his shower with a smile. However, ironically no one scolded Laxman ever for that.
India went on to lose the 2007 Cape Town Test against South Africa. Sourav Ganguly scored 46 runs in that particular innings, whereas VVS Laxman contributed only 1.
