ATP Rankings Update: Alexander Zverev to replace Roger Federer at World number Six after Miami Open 2021

Miami Open 2021 is the first Masters level tournament to be held this year. However, several top guns like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have pulled out from the Miami Open, Despite the withdrawals, the field in Miami is pretty interesting with several NextGen players eager to lay their hands on the title.

Prior to the Acapulco Open last week, Alexander Zverev lashed out at the unfair ATP Rankings system and believed that he should be ranked higher than Roger Federer, who has played just one tournament in the past 14 months. Andrey Rublev also sided with German and was critical of the rankings system.

However, Zverev will finally get his much-deserved upgrade in world-rankings, as he will replace Roger Federer as the new world number six after the conclusion of the Miami Open. He will surpass the Swiss irrespective of his result in Miami. This comes after Zverev lifted the Acapulco Open title on Saturday, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals.

Andrey Rublev has an opportunity to surpass Roger Federer in the ATP Rankings

Andrey Rublev has arguably been one of the most improved players on tour since last year. His 23-match winning streak in ATP 500 events was ended by his fellow countryman, Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals of the Dubai Open last week.

The Russian has an opportunity to surpass Roger Federer in the ATP Rankings, and become the new world number seven if he wins the Miami Open title. If he does win the title, the rankings will look like this- Alexander Zverev (6th), Andrey Rublev (7th) and Roger Federer (8th).

Daniil Medvedev will headline the field in Miami as he comes into the tournament as the top seed. The Russian claimed the world number two spot from Rafael Nadal last week and is one of the top contenders to win the Miami Open 2021.
