Tokyo Olympics-bound Indian boxing star Amit Panghal has been invited to participate in the seventh edition of the Iranian Boxing League. Panghal is at present training at Bellary in Karnataka along with his personal coach Anil Dhankhar. Before taking a decision on whether or not he would participate, Panghal is set to discuss with the high-performance director of the Indian camp Santiago Niva and his personal coach.
Panghal is in prime form at the moment as after winning the silver medal at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships in the Flyweight division, Panghal sealed his place in the Olympic Games in early 2020 before clinching gold at the Cologne Boxing World Cup in December.
League to be played in Tehran and Arak
The invitation to Panghal was reportedly sent by email on Monday and his uncle Rajnarayan Panghal confirmed the same to the press. The league is set to be played from February 22 to March 5 in Tehran and Arak. Each boxer would play five matches each in the tournament.
Amit Panghal has been considered as one of India’s brightest hopes at the Olympic Games to claim a medal. However, in recent times, he has been in the news for various allegations that he has made citing partiality in treatment of boxers in the national camp wherein his own coaches have not been allowed but the same has been allowed for some others.
