Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had an inconsistent season last year in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they missed out on a playoff spot. The team underwent a change in captaincy in between as Dinesh Karthik stepped down to hand over the reins to Eoin Morgan. The change did not work particularly well as the English skipper was unable to take his side to the playoffs despite contributing well himself with the bat.
This time around, the side have strengthened their side with a few buys, while choosing to retain a huge chunk of their squad. They chose to acquire Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as their highest profile buy, They also picked veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh to bolster their already top-notch spin attack. Some Indian picks have also added valuable backup options to the team.
Watch – Andre Russell’s brutal shot
KKR played an intra-squad practice match yesterday at the DY Patil Stadium. Two teams captained by Ben Cutting and Shubman Gill took the field. Gill’s team batted first and led by Dinesh Karthik‘s excellent 90-run knock notched up 175 runs on the board. During the innings, a brutal shot by West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell floored Karthik who had to drop to the floor to save himself from getting hit.
In the chase however, it was Ben Cutting’s side who had it easy by acing the chase. Tim Seifert delivered the goods for the side with a fantastic innings that also helped him bag the Man of the Match award.
KKR will begin their IPL campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on the 11th of April.
