Any tennis enthusiast has surely come across Andy Murray’s name. He is a former World No. 1 and a member of the Big 4- the name given to the most influential and strongest players in tennis. Murray has 46 ATP singles to his name.
However, Murray hasn’t always been lucky enough to be the biggest player in tennis, his recent years in the game have been plagued by injuries he can’t get rid of. In 2017, a hip injury forced him to take a hiatus from the sport. Since then, He has gotten two rounds of hip surgery and has resumed playing, but his ranking has fallen to No.134 as of 15 November 2021.
Following his return, Murray has been really ambitious to get his status back and regain the form he once had. He received a wildcard entry into the Australian Open 2022’s main draw after not playing at the tournament for 3 continuous years.

“Haven’t been back to Melbourne @AustralianOpen for 3 years but it always amazes me the improvements @TennisAustralia make to the event year on year. Easily the best facilities on tour. Gyms, recovery areas, dining, transport all improved even during Covid” wrote Murray in his tweet. The Australian Open 2022 is scheduled to be held at the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, Australia from 17th January to 30th January.
Murray is renowned for his fighting spirit as many times during his injury-plagued times he has been seen visibly in pain but still playing the match. He has also said that now that he’s back, he will be aiming for the top 10 rankings again.
“My goal is not to get back into the top 100. I want to get back into the top 10. In general, I don’t really understand the importance given to this top 100 milestone.” said Murray. All eyes are set on the Australian Open to see whether Murray will actually be able to come back to his full abilities.
