Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury blow as their No.9 Anthony Martial faces a long spell out with injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that the French forward is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Martial injured himself while playing for France in their FIFA World Cup European qualifier match against Kazakhstan. The forward limped off the pitch, in what was suspected to be minor knock.

Martial will now have a race against time to be fit for the EURO 2020 to be held in June

However, tests later revealed that he has suffered a sprained knee and will potentially be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Solskjaer told MUTV: “Unfortunately he’s sprained his knee with France . Losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when the reports and signals are from there that it wasn’t [anything] serious, but it looks a bad one, yeah.”

However, Solskjaer offered a more positive update in a separate interview ahead of the game against Brighton which United came from behind to win 2-1.

“He sprained his knee with France and it looks like he’ll be out for a few weeks, definitely,” he told BT Sport. “But we hope to get him back before the end of the season but we’re not sure.”

Martial has scored seven goals for United overall this season but has just three in 19 appearances in 2021.
