Archery Selection Trials: Abhishek Verma and Jyoti Surekha come out on top

Archers Abhishek Verma and V Jyothi Surekha came out on top in the compound archery selection trials that took place over two days. Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi hosted the event on Sunday amidst strict COVID-19 precautions and protocols being followed.

The trial was conducted in order to choose a group of 12 male and 12 female archers who would then be eligible for the compound coaching camp. The compound camp will be held at the Sports Authority of India campus in Sonepat from February 8 onwards. These archers will also be eligible to take part in the selection trials for three world cups in three stages – first in Guatemala in April, second in Shanghai in May and third in Paris in June.

In the men’s side, apart from Verma, Rajat Chauhan, Aman Saini, Praveen Kumar, Sangampreet Bisla, MR Bhardwaj, Rishabh Yadav, Mayank Rawat, Sukhbeer Singh, Rahul, Arjun Kumar and C Srither were selected. In the women’s side apart from Jyothi, Raginee Marko, Rekha Landkar, Muskan Kirar, Priya Gurjar, Swati Dudhwal, Trisha Deb, Saachi Dhalla, Anuradha Ahurwar, Akshita, Arshiya Chaudhary and Pragati were selected.

During the event, Olympian Limba Ram’s birthday was celebrated with cake-cutting. Limba participated in the Olympics in 1988 as a 16-year-old before going on to compete in two more editions of the Games.
