Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, on Monday, July 26, pulled off a stunning victory over USA’s Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle final of the Tokyo Olympics. The 20-year-old swimmer registered a winning time of 3:56.69 as compared to Ledecky’s 3:57.36.

However, it was her coach Dean Boxall’s reaction after the swimmer’s triumph that hogged the limelight. He went berserk while celebrating and almost lost control of himself. He shook the fence, threw punches in the air with his mask in hand.

The woman official, who was present there with him, got scared and had no idea of how to stop Titmus’ coach from tumbling over. The aggressive reaction didn’t take much time in going viral on social media platforms.

As far as Titmus’ victory was concerned, it came against the odds as Ledecky is a five-time Olympic gold medallist. The American swimmer gained the upper hand from the outset, but Titmus gained control in the last 100 metres of the race and emerged victoriously.

“I can’t believe it. I’m trying to contain my emotions. This past year I don’t know whether it’s gone fast or slow, but to get here was a relief. To come here and do the job, I’m over the moon,” Titmus was quoted as saying to Channel Seven.

Titmus was overjoyed after the victory, but she also praised Ledecky for setting high standards over the years. Ledecky finished at the second spot above China’s Li Bingjie.

“I thanked her; I wouldn’t be here without her. She set this incredible standard. I’ve been trying to chase her — it’s really exciting now we have this battle going. It’s really fun to race,” Titmus stated.

“I tried to stay as composed as I could. Then just tried to stick to my race plan. I can’t believe I pulled it off,” she added.
