Ash Barty becomes the latest tennis player to withdraw from the Qatar Open. This is the third big withdrawal of the week from this particular event, and she follows in the footsteps of Sofia Kenin, Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu

Barty is withdrawing from the event with a left leg injury, and wished the tournament success this year. She also said that she hoped to be at the event next year. Her next stop will be the Miami Open

Ash Barty said “Unfortunately I have withdrawn from the Qatar Total Open with a left leg injury. I wish the tournament a safe and successful event and hope to play there next year,” she continued “ I look forward to competing again in Miami in a few weeks time.”

Ash Barty confirms her next tournament will be the Miami Open

Ash Barty had been suffering from a left thigh strain and may have finally decided to rest her body. But her not coming to Doha doesn’t bode well for the Dubai event too. With the World No.1 already announcing that her next stop will be the Miami Open, it means she will be out of the Dubai Open as well. So basically she opted out of the whole Middle Eastern leg of the tour.

Barty has had a disappointing Australian summer by her standards. Although she did win the Yarra Classic, it was merely a warm up event. In the event that mattered, the Australian Open, she was unceremoniously dumped out in the Quarter Finals. But worse was the second round exit from an event that she had won last year, the Adelaide International.

Overall, it’s  a good strategic move for Barty who might have decided not to get on the tennis court, unless totally match fit.
