Nirmala Devi gave a commanding performance in the semi-finals to boo her place in finals. She defeated Uzbekistan’s wrestler Dauletbike Yakhshimuratova by 10-0. She will play against 2018 Under 23 World Champion Miho IGARASHI of Japan for the gold medal match. Both the wrestlers will be eyeing their first Asian Championship gold medal later in the day.
The 32 year old from India is making comeback to the international arena after career defining injury to her shoulder and is now on the verge of creating history.She made her comeback in National Championship last year and she won gold there. If she wins Gold today then she can become only second women Gold medallist from India in the history of Asian Wrestling championships. Earlier in 2018, Navjot Kaur won India’s only gold at the Asian Championships.
Earlier she defeated Munkhnar Byambasuren of Mongolia in the quarterfinals in a close contest by 6-4 to reach the semis. In the semi-finals she got the better of Dauletbike YAKHSHIMURATOVA of Uzbekistan by 10-0.
In the finals Nirmala will be up for tough and tenacious opponent in form of Igarashi. The 2018 Under 23 World Champion created a huge upset by defeating 2019 world bronze medallist Valentina Islamova of Kazakhstan.
