Russian 27 year old, Aslan Karatsev has had a breakthrough season this year. He has solidified his position everytime he stepped on the court. At the Start of the year, Karatsev was ranked outside the Top 200 in the world.

With a dream outing at the Australian Open, where he reached the Semi-finals, then his title win in Dubai; he has seen his ranking jump to a whooping No.28 in the world now. At the Serbia Open he has taken down opponents like Aljaz Bedene in the first round, Gianluca Mager in the second round, and then upset World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the Semi-finals, the biggest win of his career. 

Playing at home in Belgrade, the top seed did everything that he possibly could to to stop the Russian sensation. But after 3 hrs and 25 mins, Karatsev has the last man standing. During the match, Karatsev saved 23 of the 28 break points to win the match 7-5 4-6 6-4.

The Russian lost in the Final at Belgrade to World No.10 Matteo Berrettini in three sets. Karatsev has risen to the ranks like noone else on tour this season. After the match, he spoke the same/

He said: “It’s not like I came from nowhere. I worked a lot every day before and now I am achieving success at 27 years of age.”

Aslan Karatsev will next play the BMW Open in Munich this week where is the third seed. He has been handed a first round bye and will play the winner of Federico Coria and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe.
