ATK Mohan Bagan finalised the long-awaited merger


ATK Mohun Bagan FC is the new name of ATK and Mohun Bagan franchise merger team in the Indian Super League. On Friday, the 130-year old football club completed the formalities of merging with three-time ISL champions ATK FC, thus scripting a new era in Indian football named as – ‘ATK Mohun Bagan’.

The club was enrolled under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs a month ago, as ‘ATK-Mohun Bagan Private Limited’ with five board individuals – ATK co-proprietor Utsav Parekh, Mohun Bagan pair of Srinjoy Bose and Debashish Dutta, and two different individuals – Gautam Ray and Sanjeev Mehra.

The Founder and Chairperson of Football Sports Development Limited Mrs. Nita Ambani in a statement said:

“We are delighted on the merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan, the two powerhouses of Indian football. I whole-heartedly welcome Mohun Bagan, one of India’s oldest and most renowned club, to the Indian Super League and congratulate Sanjiv Goenka for embracing the I-League champions with open arms.”

Ambani accepts that the joined intensity of ATK and MB will additionally empower India to build up its fortress in AFC tournaments.

“The coming together of these two heavyweights marks a momentous chapter in the history of Indian sports. The new entity, ‘ATK Mohun Bagan FC’, holds vast potential for not just West Bengal or Indian football but internationally too, as we endeavour to establish Indian clubs as strong players in AFC competitions.” – the chairperson said.

Ambani is of the sentiment that the ATK Mohun Bagan will lead the route towards an increasingly serious stage for youthful Indian players. This would profit the general football structure and proper footballing system in the nation.

“Talent can only be realised when budding youngsters get the opportunity and exposure to play competitive football at the highest levels. I am confident that this partnership will benefit football in our country and help us realise our dream of making India a football superpower.” – Ambani said.

“I have had the honour to watch the Green and Maroon play some of their best football. We respect the legacy and have retained the same jersey which generations down the line have embraced, adored and loved. My dream is to establish ATK Mohun Bagan as a world-class team which earns its place in the international circuit.” – Goenka added.

Recently inducted executive for the ATK Mohun Bagan merger, Mr. Sourav Ganguly and the co-owner of ATK Mohun Bagan said – “I salute the coming together of ATK and Mohun Bagan. Together the brand name ATK Mohun Bagan will create history.”

Mohun Bagan have won the top-flight league a record 5 times, the National Football League three times and the I-League twice while the ATK side has won 3 ISL titles since it’s inauguration in 2014.

The dream merger would also play in the 2021 AFC Cup by utilizing Mohun Bagan’s slot as the I-League 2019-20 season winners.
