The club directors have made lucrative promises to the fans with prospects modernising the infrastructure and establishing a state-of-the-art academy.
On 10 July, the first board meeting took place for the new entity of the ATK Mohun Bagan where the members unanimously decided to retain the green and maroon jersey and the boatman logo, which has been the club legacy for 131- years now. After the declaration of the new entity, the board members assured it’s fans of better prospects and better days in the coming future.
The four major promises that highlight the main promises of the board are:
Modernisation of Infrastructure
The infamous club tent at Gostho Pal Sarani will be renovated to facilitate the players with the best infrastructure and training facilities to compete at various domestic and international competitions.
However, to build any permanent structure, the club needs the permission of the Indian Army who remains the de facto owners of the plot.
Holding ISL & AFC matches at the existing facilities
This should barely come as a surprise that the three times ISL champions are eyeing a spot in the AFC Champions League. The club directors have promises to initiate sufficient investment so that ISL and AFC games are held there. However, to host AFC matches at the Bagan ground would require massive upgradation of the infrastructure to meet AFC standards.
World-Class Football Academy
The management promised to invest in building a world-class football academy for the local talent to upskill their talent. ATK Mohun Bagan soccer schools will be launched across the country which will impart high-quality football education.
Currently, Mohun Bagan has an academy partnership with SAIL but the financial aspects of the academy are not in the best conditions.
“If I can, I would like to upgrade the facilities at the Mohun Bagan ground. It is part of the city’s history. As we have grown up, each one of us has seen that it is iconic.
But, it needs up-gradation, modernization, and needs to be reconstructed in a different manner. And, if I can I would like to upgrade the facilities such that, to begin with, we can have ISL games there. But over a period of time, maybe have AFC games there as well and build it into a world-class facility,” said Sanjiv Goenka, principal owner of ATK Mohun Bagan
Young talented players from Mohun Bagan to be inducted in ATKMB
Mohun Bagan has four promising talents Sk Sahil, Subha Ghosh, Kiyan Nasiri, and Deep Saha who have been guaranteed a spot in the new squad under the tutelage of coach Antonio Habas. But it remains to be seen how many minutes do they get under their belt in the next season.
Earlier, ATK and Mohun Bagan had decided to merge its football division back in January 2020 that would help Mohun Bagan enter the ISL and AFC Cup from the 2020-21 season, under the name of ATK Mohun Bagan.
