Indian Super League runner-ups ATK Mohun Bagan have roped in the French-Moroccan player Hugo Boumous from ISL champions Mumbai City FC.

The attacking midfielder started his ISL career with FC Goa, where he played 42 matches between 2018 and 2020. He scored 16 goals during his stint with the Goan-based club. He then signed a contract with Mumbai City FC, and he played a key role in guiding them to win the ISL trophy and Shield.

Hugo Boumous will now don the Green and Maroon jersey for the next five years, having signed a long-term deal with ATK Mohun Bagan.

Hugo Boumous had his say after signing for the Mariners ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Super League. He said:

“I know Kolkata as the Mecca of Indian football and I’m happy to sign with the city’s traditional and successful club, ATK Mohun Bagan. I’m aware that the joy of playing in front of millions of supporters of the club at the Salt Lake Stadium is different. This time, I shall play for their win.”

“I’m always hungry to win the trophy and I’ve brought success to the clubs that I’ve played for. I shall keep this in my mind as I play again and therefore, I’ll do my best to win. I’m looking forward to seeing the passion and excitement of the supporters. My goal is to win the AFC Cup and the Indian Super League with my new team,” he added.

Boumous joined Mumbai City FC ahead of the 2020/21 edition of the ISL. He played 15 matches for the Islanders and scored three goals during the season.

He scored his first goal against Kerala Blasters and the second against FC Goa in the league phase. His final goal of the season came against FC Goa in the semi-final. He netted in a goal at the 38th minute the level scores 1-1. Eventually, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Hugo Boumous also assisted seven times last season and played a vital role in helping them lift two trophies in a single year.
