ATP 2021 schedule announced, Australian Open to begin from February 8

ATP has announced the schedule for the 2021 season, with the Australian Open 2021 slated to begin from February 8. The Australian Open was originally scheduled to begin from January 18 but was delayed by three weeks because of scheduling issues.

Tennis Australia and the Victorian and Australian governments are yet to confirm the new schedule, but the ATP on Thursday revealed it’s revised calendar for the 2021 season, which will give a huge sigh of relief to players who can plan their schedule accordingly. The qualifying rounds for the Australian Open will be held in Doha from January 10-13. The players, coaches and other staff who arrive in Australia, will have to quarantine themselves for two weeks.

The ATP Cup, a team event will be held from February 1-5 to give the players a chance to prepare for the Australian Open 2021, which commences from February 8. The defending champions are Serbia, who will be spearheaded by Novak Djokovic. The first ATP tournament of the year will be the Delray Beach Open to be held from January 5-13. Last year, the Delray Open was held in February just before the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the regular season.

The Antalya Open, another ATP 250 event will also be held earlier than usual in January. Some of the tournaments that will not take place this year are the New York Open and the Auckland Open. The ATP is also looking for new dates for the Rio Open, which was originally slated to begin from February 17. The schedule for the later weeks will be announced by ATP separately.
