ATP and WTA stars call for stopping hate towards Asians

There has been an increased and much-needed call for stopping discrimination and hate against Asians over the course of the last two weeks after the tragic events that occurred in Atlanta where three mass shootings took place, killing 8 people including 6 Asian women. Ever since then, there has been a rallying call for stopping Asian hate around the world and for stereotyping and discrimination to stop.

In that vein, tennis professionals have also come together to lend a voice to the rallying cry for stopping Asian hate. A plethora of stars from both the ATP and WTA tours featured in a video that was posted today by both tours which was captioned, “The ATP & WTA stand united against any form of hate and discrimination. We are stronger united than we are divided. #StopAsianHate

The video features stars like Naomi Osaka, Kei Nishikori, Mackenzie McDonald, Matteo Berretini, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Madison Keys among many others with each telling, “Stop Asian Hate.”

“Hi everyone, it’s Naomi. I just wanted to make this brief message in support of the AAPI community. I hope that people start to respect and love Asian culture and Asian people,” Naomi Osaka can be seen telling in the video. “I’m against all forms of discrimination, and please stop Asian hate,” Kei Nishikori says.

The video ends with a much-needed message saying, “We are stronger united than we are divided.” before the hashtag #StopAsianHate appears.
