Diego Schwartzman was one of the standout players on tour last season. The Argentine had a terrific season, where he broke into the top 10 rankings and also managed to reach the semifinals of the French Open, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Schwartzman loves playing on Clay and is one of the front-runners to go deep at the French Open. Although he didn’t start his Clay season well, bowing out of the Monte Carlo Masters in the Round of 32.

His opponent, Frances Tiafoe of the USA has had a good season so far and he opens his Clay court campaign at the Barcelona Open. Earlier, Tiafoe reached the Round of 16 at the Miami Open before losing to top seed Daniil Medvedev.

In Barcelona, he defeated young Spanish sensation and wild-card Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. He was in command from ball go and won the match with a scoreline of 6-4,7-6(2).

Diego Schwartzman

His is expected to be a quality match despite the disparity in rankings. Tiafoe is in great form and would like to continue the same with his big forehands.

On the contrary, Schwartzman is not in great form but the surface suits him. He is a great slider and would want to maximize his court coverage potential. Expect a tight match with big rallies and the Argentine edging past the American.

Prediction: Schwartzman to win in straight sets.
