Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev: Preview

Alexander Zverev

Djokovic was the reason Serbia managed to edge past Canada in the opening tie. The 33-year old Serb not only dished out a clinical performance to outclass Denis Shapovalov in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 but later on partnered alongside Filip Krajinovic to beat the pair of Milos Raonic and Shapovalov 7-5, 7-6 and snatch a victory for Serbia.

On the other hand, Zverev is yet to play a match in 2021. The 23-year old German last competed in Nitto ATP Finals 2020, where Zverev could not manage to move past the group stage after a humiliating defeat from Djokovic in straight sets 3-6, 6-7. All in all, 2020 was a year to forget for the Next Gen superstar from Germany.

Novak Djokovic

The kind of form Djokovic is in, it is almost impossible to call the player playing against the Serb as a favourite to win the encounter. Even fatigue is on the side of Alexander Zverev as he would have to play back to back matches for his nation on consecutive days. Expect it to be a smooth sail for Djokovic and Serbia is looking well set to make back-to-back semifinals at the ATP Cup.

Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic defeats Alexander Zverev comprehensively in straight sets.
