John Isner
John Isner

Isner did not travel to Australian this year. So, he has played in just three tournaments this year. The first was the Del ray beach Open, where he reached the Quarter-finals. Then came the Acapulco Open, where Stefanos Tsitsipas got the better of him in the round of sixteen. At the Miami Open, Isner showed some good form before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of sixteen, He lost in three sets  3-6 6-4 6-7.

This will be Isner’s first tournament on clay this season. His first round opponent is Serbian tennis player Miomir Kecmanović. Kecmanović has focused on clay court this season, but unfortunately for him he has not been able to show consistency in his game.

He has participated in four clay court tournaments this year alone, the Cordoba Open, ATP Buenos Aires, the Monte Carlo Masters, the Serbia Open. His best finish thus far has been a semi-final appearance at the Argentina Open and a Quarter-final of the Serbia Open. In the Serbia Open Quarter-final he lost to Novak Djokovic 1-6 3-6.

John Isner vs Miomir Kecmanović: Prediction

John Isner
John Isner

Isner is thirty-six year old, and he will be proud of what he has achieved in his career so far. But, at this late stage of his career it is a little surprising to see him travel to compete in clay court events. Having set that, the conditions at Madrid are such that the ball bounces to a good height, which will aid the six foot ten inch American to hit his groundstrokes. Kecmanović lacks consistency in his play and if Isner gets his serves right, Kecmanović will find himself in a lot of trouble very quickly.

Match Prediction: John Isner will beat Miomir Kecmanović in three sets.
