David Goffin vs Marin Cilic: Match Preview
The Belgian hasn’t been experiencing great results over the past few months. Early round defeats in Doha, Dubai and Miami has only dented his confidence. Although a former top-10 players, the 30-year-old has dropped his form over the last couple of seasons. That said, Goffin is an all-court player and can certainly be a handful on clay.
On the other hand, the Croat too hasn’t enjoyed a great season thus far. However, the former US Open Champion made a decent run at the recently concluded ATP Masters 1000 in Miami. He has nine wins to seven defeats for this year.
Expect a thrilling, turbulent contest between the two senior professionals.
David Goffin v Marin Cilic: Head to Head
Both players are locked at 4-4. While it is even stevens in their head to head, the Croat has a better record on clay over the Belgian. Their last meeting was at the Rome Masters in 2020, where Cilic prevailed in two easy sets.
David Goffin v Marin Cilic: Match Prediction
Since there is hardly anything to separate the two veterans, it would only be fair to make a call based on their recent-past clay showdown. As far as that goes, Cilic has the edge over Goffin with 2 wins to 1 on the dirt. However, we can expect a turbulent contest with regular breaks of serve.
Match Prediction: Marin Cilic should beat David Goffin in three sets.
