Novak Djokovic has played just a couple of tournaments this year. The Australian Open and the Monte Carlo Masters. Played on hard courts, the Australian Open was more or less the finale of the hard court season. Djokovic won the Australian Open, his ninth overall, by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the Final.

In the process though he got injured and took a few weeks off to recover. Djokovic came back to tour in the Monte Carlo masters. Playing on clay, Djokovic won his first round match convincingly, defeating Jannik Sinner in straight sets, 6-4 6-2. But in the second round he suffered an unexpected loss to Dan Evans of Great Britain.

Djokovic will now be playing on the clay courts of Belgrade, his hometown. He had a bye in the first round, his second round opponent is Kwon Soon-woo. The South Korean made the quarterfinals in Marbella and scored a win over Roberto Carballes Baena in the opening round here.

Djokovic suffered the humiliation of an early exit at the Monte Carlo and coupled with the fact that the Serbian Open has returned after a hiatus of nine years means that Djokovic will be motivated to win this time. Soon-Woo is not that bad a player on clay, but he will be facing someone who is a few levels superior.

Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic will beat Kwon Soon-woo in straight sets.
