From being No.4 in the ITF rankings in singles after reaching the quarterfinals of Australian and semifinal of US Open to turning professional, and winning his first Future title at the F4 event in Finland in November 2017, Emil Ruusuvuori steps forward on his way of becoming the Next Gen star.
In the year 2019, September he hoisted himself in the ATP ranking singles at position No. 142. Not only this but he beat World No.5 and twice Roland Garros finalists Dominic Thiem in the same year and month.
As reported by the ATP tour’s official website, in a recent interview, the Finnish star revealed, ‘training sessions with Rafael Nadal was a dream come true’. I chose to spend time during the 2019 off-season at the Rafael Nadal Academy by Movistar.
“It’s something really different, the way Rafael Nadal hits the ball and how he keeps the practice so intense. It’s something I’d never experienced and it’s one the best memories I have on the tennis court,” said Emil.
He added, “From the first ball how hard he hits and just through the practice how intense he is. In every practice, he’s like that, so it’s amazing how he keeps his focus so high.”
The 21 year old has no doubt what he wants to achieve on the tennis court.
Keeping things short, altogether the Finnish concluded, “I’m just excited to go back to matches. We’ve practiced a lot now, so it’ll be nice to get back to playing.”
