Novak Djokovic, winning hearts all over Serbia
On 24th of June, the organizer of the Adria Tour, Novak Djokovic announced that he and his wife tested positive for coronavirus, which gained him a lot of criticism from a host of players. Although, recent reports have stated that Djokovic and his wife have now been tested negative of the virus.
But what makes headlines now, is the class shown by the World No.1 for his €40,000 donation to the city of Novi Pazar, the hometown of Serbian striker, Adem Ljajic. Novi Pazar has been the worst-hit Serbian city during the pandemic.
Chats leaked between the two in which the footballer is seen thanking ‘The Joker’ for helping out the city. Ljajic wrote, “My brother, I wanted to personally thank you on behalf of the citizens of Novi Pazar for the donation you sent to my city and on my behalf. Many messages came to me from Novi Pazar, to thank you personally. So I took advantage of that acquaintance of ours. I hope you and your family are ok? Get well soon,” quoted by Tennis World USA.
To which Djokovic replied, “Dear Adem, thank you for the wonderful message. It is my pleasure, honor, and obligation to help whenever and wherever I can. I have never been to Novi Pazar, and I would love to. I heard the city has a great soul. We are fine, we have been negative since yesterday.
Djokovic felt that it is his duty to help out his country whenever and wherever possible. No matter the critics have condemned the player for his actions in the past, Djokovic still showed the man is and always be with such a gesture.
