Australian Open 2021: Daniil Medvedev makes his way to the final after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets

Daniil Medvedev made it to his first Australian Open final where he will face Novak Djokovic.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev clashed in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2021 with none of them being clear favorite because of the form they were in. The head-to-head record put Medvedev in the lead as it stood 5 to 1 and the Russian added one more win to his tally by winning in straight sets.

The match was won by with a score of 6-4, 6-2, 7-5.

Daniil Medvedev dominates throughout to emerge victorious

The first set started with Tsitsipas taking the first game. But soon the players were in a tie of 2-2 until Medvedev took a lead of 4-2. Tsitsipas then fought back to make it 5-4 with Medvedev still in lead. Then, with two aces Medvedev took the first set 6-4.

The second set saw a very heated tie between the players which was won by Medvedev at break making it 2-1. And from this point on Medvedev played like a wall, as he came up with some really amazing shots and by the second break, it was 5-2. The Russian then took the set 6-2.

The third set starteed with a clear show of dominance from Medvedev taking a 2-0 lead. However, to everyone’s surprise and to the crowd’s delight Tsitsipas made it a tie at 3-3 and got a seemingly momentary lead of 4-3 even as Medvedev got it to a tie of 4-4. Medvedev then came roaring back and won the set and match as the set ended with a score of 7-5.

In the post-match interview, about his match, Medvedev said that he got slightly worried when Tsitsipas started to make a comeback in the third set, but he was able to focus and overcome it. About his next opponent Novak Djokovic, he said that he likes the fact that he does not have as much pressure as Novak Djokovic has because the Serb has never lost in the Australian Open final before.
