Australian Open 2021: Third seed Dominic Thiem crashes out defeated by Grigor Dimitrov

Austrian Star Dominic Thiem took on Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the fourth round of Australian Open 2021. As per head to head comparison, Dimitrov had the lead of one win. However, Thiem showed his mettle in the last round against Nick Kyrgios, where he overcame a two-set deficit.
Although, this was not the case this time as Dimitrov added another win to himself in the head to head.

The match was won by Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

Dimitrov through to quarterfinals after straight-set victory against Thiem

The first game of the set was won by Dominic Thiem. He continued this momentum with some resistance from Dimitrov to make it 3-1. Dimitrov then stepped up his game and got the set to a tie of 3-3. He was then able to take the lead with 5-3. And took the set with 6-4.

The next set started with a similar note with Dominic Thiem taking the lead at 2-1. However, that didn’t matter for long as Dimitrov kept pushing Thiem making him commit a lot of unforced errors and a few good serves. Got him the set with a score of 6-4. This gave Dimitrov a 2 to nil lead in the match.

Dominic Thiem seemed on his back foot going into the third set. Just like his previous match with Nick Kyrgios. Dimitrov took a good lead with 2 games to love looking very dominant. He extended the lead with another two wins making it 4-0. There was no recovery from that point onwards. Dimitrov took the set with 6-0

In the post match interview, Dimitrov said that he was trying to focus on the game and praised Thiem and gave credit to his focus. On his next opponent, he said that its not a fairytale and that he will be ready as his opponent is a dangerous player.
