Matteo Berrettini vs Tomas Machac: Match Preview

Matteo Berrettini

World No.10 Matteo Berrettini managed to turn it on at the ATP Cup last week and won three of his four singles matches to take Team Italy all the way to a final before defeat to Daniil Medvedev.

The 24-year-old looked near his best form in wins against Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista Agut last week. He carried the same form in the 1st round of the Australian Open where he defeated Kevin Anderson 7-6(9),7-5,6-3.

Only a herculean effort from his opponent Tomas Machac can bring him anywhere close to the Italian. Machac is a Qualifier and currently ranked 199th in the world. He is coming off a good win against Mario Vilella Martínez who retired in the 4th set. The Czech was up 6-7(5),7-5,6-0,3-0.

Matteo Berrettini vs Tomas Machac: Prediction

Matteo Berrettini

It is a no-brainer that Matteo Berrettini will start as the overwhelming favorite to win the clash. Even if the 20-year-old brings out his best game, he may still fall short by a mile. Only a blunder from Berrettini could give Machac a chance. Expect the Italian to wrap things up quickly.

Prediction: Berrettini to win in straight sets.
