Naomi Osaka took on Hsieh Su-Wei of Taiwan in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2021. Osaka had the lead in the head to head comparison with 4 to 1. They last played against each other in the Cinncinati Masters in 2019. Osaka managed to stay on top of her opponent and took the match 6-2, 6-2.
Naomi Osaka’s dominating win against Hsieh
The first set began with Osaka taking the first game but Hsieh through her very different playstyle made it 1-1. However, Osaka was able to get a lead of 3-1. She extended her lead with a brilliant volley making it 4-1. Hsieh tried to come back in the game but Osaka took the match with a score of 6-2.
The second set started with Osaka rushing to lead with 2-0. Then during her serve, she proceeded to extend her lead by 3-0. Hsieh looked on the back foot and Osaka kept the pressure on.
Osaka was in control of the second set with Hsieh trying to come back. She managed to take the set with a score of 6-2.
In the post-match interview, When asked about her match, she said she was really happy she was able to play well. And said that despite the score playing against Hsieh was still a battle for her. She also said that she was happy to be able to keep calm during the match. On her next opponent, Osaka said that it doesn’t matter who it is, it will be fun.
