Australian Open 2021: Naomi Osaka marches on to the 4th round after facing stiff resistance from Ons Jabeur

Naomi Osaka faced off against Ons Jabeur in the third round of the Australian Open 2021 in what was the first meeting between the players. Naomi Osaka entered as the clear favorite although Jabeur had also proved herself in the earlier two rounds. In the end, Osaka was able to get the win despite her opponent’s best efforts. The scoreline did not define the effort Jabeur put in the match though as she put up a dogged fight.

The match was won by Naomi Osaka with a score of 6-3, 6-2 .

The first set started off with Osaka taking the first game hitting three aces against Jabeur. But Jabeur was able to equalize the score. This tie was broken soon by Osaka as she won two games in succession to make the score 4-2. She maintained this momentum and despite some resistance from Ons Jabeur took the set 6-3.

The second set started with Jabeur taking the first game. But her start soon fizzled out as Osaka took the lead with 3-1. Osaka was briefly disturbed by a butterfly in this set when the score was at 3-2. She saw off the butterfly and got back in the game and got the score to 4-2.

Osaka then continued this momentum to extend her lead to 5-2. She won the set with a score of 6-2.

In the post match interview, when asked about the match Osaka said that it was a good match and thanked the crowd for coming out. She also also talked about her fondness for the Australian accent in a light-hearted moment.
