Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz: Preview
Talking about the performance in the tournament so far, Djokovic, after destroying Jeremy Chardy in straight sets in the opening round, found the going tough against Tiafoe. The 33-year old Serb lost his first set of the tournament and was close to losing another as he edged past Tiafoe 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 in a tense encounter.
On the other hand, Fritz has lost at least one set in each of his two matches so far. The 23-year old American first defeated Albert Ramos Vinolas 7-6, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 and then outclassed Reilly Opelka 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in a marathon encounter. Fritz has not looked clinical at all to say the least.
Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz: Head-to-Head
Prior to their meeting in Melbourne, the two players have faced each other on two occasions. Djokovic has won both the matches and hence leads the head-to-head record 2-0. They last met in 2019 in a Round of 32 contest at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid, where Djokovic sailed past Fritz by defeating him 6-4, 6-2.
Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz: Prediction
Despite a shabby performance in the second round, Djokovic is expected to bounce back in style as he is too good a plyer to make similar kind of mistakes in back-to-back matches. A one-sided contest is on the cards as Fritz has looked rustier and therefore, stands no chance to even trouble the 17-time Grand Slam champion.
Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic defeats Taylor Fritz comfortably in straight sets.
