Badminton: National Training Camp Expected to Start From July 1 in Hyderabad

Since the coronavirus cases are constantly rising in every part of the country as well as Hyderabad. Telangana government has extended the lockdown in the state till June 30. The extension made badminton players further disappointed as it means the trainings got delayed again.

BAI secretary Ajay Singhania in a recent statement told PTI that they are expecting to start the national training camp from July 1 if the Telangana government gives them the permission. He said, “The pandemic has put a break on our training but after weighing the situation, we have decided to start the training camps in Hyderabad from July 1, subject to state government’s permission and approval.”

The statement came as a relief for top Indian shuttlers including World Champion P.V. Sindhu, who are still confined to their homes in Hyderabad. Some players have started their training in Bengaluru at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PBBA) after the Sports Authority of India  (SAI) granted them the permission.

BAI also said that the domestic circuit will remain closed till September and will start only after reviewing the pandemic situation. Singhania told PTI, ““BAI had a discussion with all state secretaries on the status of resuming the domestic tournaments and after consultations it was decided that domestic tournaments will not resume till September,” Besides, out of four International events supposed to take place in India, two have been cancelled.
