The Thomas Cup 2022 has already been historic for India, as the men’s team managed to qualify for the finals after a 7 decade wait. The young Indian men’s team had quite the showing, plowing past Denmark and Malaysia to make their first ever finals of the event.
The first match of the finals against the 14-time Thomas cup winners Indonesia, was a crucial one of World no. 9 Lakshya Sen and World No. 5 Anthony Ginting, and it was expected to be a tough one. The first set was not even a question for the Indonesian, who took straight to court and won the set 21-8. Surely he would go on to win the match with ease.

As the second set started, Sen took a narrow lead, soon leading the set 11-7. The points gap continued to narrow between the two, as the score became 12-11. But Lakshya Sen ran with it soon after, and he took a dominant victory in the second set of 21-17. The third set saw Ginting get quite flustered, as he began to show cracks in his game.
Sen powered on in the third set, carrying forward the momentum of the second set. However, things seemed to not be going his way mid set, as he was down 7-11 to Ginting. But a fantastic comeback from Sen saw him play such powerful shots, closing up the gat 12-11. Soon, Sen was at 19-15 and from there the match was his. Reaching match point, Sen took the entire match, finishing the last set 21-16.
A powerful performance from the youngster put India in the lead 1-0, as the doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwikraj Rankireddy take on Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.
