Saina Nehwal secured a straight game win over Ukraine’s Maria Ulitina to enter the women’s singles quarter-finals. Saina is currently racing against time to qualify for her fourth Olympics. She will face Thailand’s third seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan in quarterfinal. Ongbamrungphan has beaten the former world No 1 twice in the last two encounters.
Kidambi Srikant poor run continues as compatriot as Ajay Jayaram wretched his hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo Games. Kidambi looked completely out of touch and went down 6-21, 17-21 in his second round match.
If we look at previous tournament this year, Kidambi had lost in first in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. He desperately needed to make it to the quarters or semifinals consistently to qualify for the Olympics. But today’s result has almost dashed his chances for Tokyo Olympics.
