On April 6, 2020, BWF (Badminton World Federation) announced that all its flagship International, Junior and Para tournaments, which have been scheduled from May to July due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be suspended.
The release stated “The escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic globally has led all parties to confirm the suspension of these tournaments. The health, safety and well-being of all athletes, their entourages, officials and the greater Badminton community remain the top priority.”
Further, It also stated that “The BWF is also reviewing the impacts of the rescheduling of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympics games upon the Olympic and paralympic qualification system. This review process is expected to take several weeks upon which BWF will make a further announcement.”
This discussion is taken in close consultation and consensus of Host Member Association (HMA)and Continental Confederation(CC). The most affected tournaments in this period is Indonesia Open 2020.
