Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia assured his place in the 65kg category at next year Tokyo Olympics. Ravi Dahiya also seems at top-four billing at the mega event which will take place from July 23 to August 8 next year.
UWW the Wrestling World Governing Body announced the fresh ranking in which Bajrang is placed at number 2 in the 65kg category. Dahiya is at 4 in the very competitive 57kg category and Russian Olympic champion Gadhzimurad Rashidov leads the 65kg ranking. But the Indian and Russian wrestlers have such a great command over the feild that they can sit out of the final ranking series and still earn a top four seeding at Olympic Games
Bajrang punia began the year on ranked three with 25 points after his world bronze medal. After that he also added 16 points to his world championship after he erased a three point deficit against Jordan Oliver
Dahiya wants to secure one of the top four seeds and for that he needs 12 points finish at the final ranking series. There is very less chance that a Indian wrestler grab the number one seeding.
No Indian figure in top 10 of the 74kg,97kg and 125kg categories, the three other Olympic weight categories. The top four in each category will be seeded at the Tokyo games which has been pushed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
